A 12mile walk, starting and finishing, on the Blakey ridge.
The walk takes in, the rich industrial heritage,of the area. With great views, of the upper Rosedale valley.
A lunch stop, will be had, at the lovely village of Rosedale Abbey.

Probably but will have to see nearer the time. One of my favourite walks and love the Lion!!
Hope you can join dale, I will be sleeping in my steel tent, with a breakfast in pub, before walk!
Old habits die hard lol
Will make a weekend of it as it's not local for me ๐
Could be the first outing for my mobile garden shed. Are you on a campsite Andy?
andy m: Iโve camped at the lion on a number of occasions. If they still do it, we could make a weekend of it. Great food and atmosphere for an evening meal and I could lead a walk on the Sunday if you like. Maybe a coastal one ??
They've stopped the camping bit, it's only for c2c ers now, and signs gone up recently, for no camping or campers, in car park, at lion! I parked up with steel tent 100yrds from pub, still had breakfast there and used toilet! At least i was ยฃ6 better off! Lol
Could do dale! I'v got a nice little circular from Whitby to sandsend and back along beach! There is a good basic campsite, at cropton 'new inn' no showers, ยฃ6, I use regular, only a short drive to lion!
andy m: ah thatโs a shame but I guess there are also lots of other accommodation possibilities close by if people search. BnBs, cottages, YHA In Whitby etc etc. Iโve stayed at the Lion and the Feversham Arms before too. If you put up a Sunday walk, I might treat myself even though I am close enough to travel in easily ๐
I camped at The Lion in September. We were doing the C to C but they didn't ask if we were. There were about 10 to 12 tents already there. We just booked dinner and asked if we could camp. They also let us use the showers in the morning. If they'd said no, we'd have just walked a bit further and put our tent up anyway! Perhaps they are keeping the camping under the radar? The food was great!
That looks lake a plan TC.
Sounds a lovely idea Andy m . Will also look into the possibility of camping and stopping over. Thanks for everyoneโs useful input ๐
Andy, don't you walk anywhere but Rosedale Abbey?
It's a long story lazlo lol!
For some reason it popped up 3 times on same day, and couldn't delete. So I just changed the dates!
And yes, I'm a bit bored with peaks these days, i'v got a few more in this area, I will be putting on in future.
Iโm staying at Whitby hostel Sat night so up for Sunday activities and may stay another night
Hi going4gold,
Just making sure you are aware the walks on the Saturday, great place to stay at YHA Whitby, I need to get a few days booked there, before the YHA January sale runs out!
Yes will be in the walk on Saturday and staying over night Saturday night to extend the weekend . Please let me know if there is a group plan to eat in whitby on Saturday night . I am also considering walking a 13 mile reccie of a race along the coastal path between ravenscar and Scarborough
I'm booked into YHA boggle hole for Sunday &Monday night, so may be able, to fit a walk from Scarborough to ravenscar 'going4gold'.
I'm flexible for Friday and Saturday night, either at lion, parked up with my steal tent, or new inn, cropton campsite. I will stay with the majority.
I'v added my phone number to walk description, if you had an email telling you of changes!
Looking forward to seeing you all, any idea where you are mainly stopping? If you are.
Hi Andy.Would it be posible for you to email me your number? It turns out my dog isn"t anywhere big enough to tackle the full walk so I may have a trip to Rosedale and join you for lunch if that is ok? Difficult for me to commit to anything at this point. Thanks
Andy.Just seen your number!!! We are bright in Hull
Dennisgrant,
you are quite welcome to join at the lunch spot, which will be Rosedale Abbey village, roughly 12ish, the cafe's are dog freindly, so all's good!
Thanks Andy
Looking forward to this one, if it still goes ahead...
I am hoping for loads of Daffs being already out and about.
I know it's not Farndale but we may see some along the way either walking or along the country road ๐๐
Yes the daffs are out bea, and I'm really looking forward to it, I'm isolating at mo, the dreaded covid got me, in end, but thought I'd got a bit of hayfever, loads got it at beer fest I attended, I should be clear beginning of next week, x
Andy it got to you in the end....
I knew drinking beer would be your downfall lol
I hope you are not feeling to bad.
Take care
See you next week x
Weather for the weekend looks superb, wished I had camped now.
Weather says Blue sky!!! ELO classic โค
Just been in touch with lion, you are ok to park in their car park, if you wish, they don't serve breakfast to non residents, I've been informed, unless you are camping nearby , and pay night before. I'm stopping at cropton, new inn, camping, on Friday night, not sure where I will be Saturday night, looking forward to seeing you all x
Look8ng forward seeing you all tomorrow ๐
If Andy is taking the route via Lastingham...there is a unusal church with a one of the oldest crypt in England. It also has loads of the Crosses....which used to be out on the Moors " hidden" away.
As I remember we will be passing a old cross ( Ana cross) on the Moors but the older version of this particular cross can be found in this mentioned church.
Anyway...enough of that....looking forward to a glorious walk and great company ๐๐
Oooh heck ....lol...ignore boring facts above...thats a different walk ( near Rosedale)๐๐
So see you all tomorrow, s Rosedale walk...
P's I blame Tilly for the mix up....She kept me up all night ๐ lol x
Andy thanks for the invite. Rosedale was new to me . Fabulous location, weather and company.
