Booking for Middletons. If you intend to stay either in a tent or campervan on the Middletons site you can book now. The site has changed hands and I've spoken with the new owners and they are working on improving the site. To make a booking you can do so on their site at: https://www.middletonsarran.co.uk/ Also, they have offered a 10% discount for the first 12 people booking with them for this trip, so first come first served. To get the discount you need the discount code, which you can get by contacting me.
If you haven't been to Arran before then you really should give it a try. Rightly named Scotland in miniature, it's Highland in the North and Lowland in the South.
Though organised through OD, it's not exclusive for OD members, ex-members, friends and family are very welcome to join in.
This year we'll use Middleton's Camping as our main site which has the benefit of being in Lamlash and only 3 miles from Brodick and Whiting Bay. This gives people the best opportunities for alternative accommodation. Re booking Middleton's, I'll post the details towards the end of the summer.
This week is NOT a Boot Camp and none of the activities are compulsory. We have a great WhatsApp group which is used for arranging activities.
Starting on the Wednesday for 7 nights means that some people can come for just a long weekend or whatever time suits them.
Re activities, what does Arran offer?
1) Walking, there are a multitude of walking routes ranging from short low level walks to full challenging mountaineering days. And the ascent up Goatfell is rewarded on a clear day with a superb 360 degrees panorama.
2) Cycling, there is lots of on and off road cycling, Google "Cycling on Arran"
3) Water sports, with plenty of great beaches there's every opportunity for paddle boarders, wild swimmers, kayakers and whatever else takes your fancy.
4) Wild Life, and I don't mean our BBQ and sing song at Middleton's!!!, deer, red squirrels, herons, seals, otters and if you're lucky a pod of dolphins.
5) Geology, come and discover how James Hutton used the geology of Arran to become known as the Father of Modern Geology.
6) And to finish off a day's activity there's the fabulous Arran Ice Cream, which is available throught the island.
Need I say more?? Also, if you want to join the Arran 2025 WhatsApp group then please contact me directly.

jajakcmHi Jacky, glad you enjoyed it in 2022 and it would be great to see you back in 2025.
Cheers, John.
Just been having a nosey on who everybody is and where they are from etc.
trtrekkieLooks like a really broad and easy going collection..
I haven't been in a kayak or canoe for a long time but would love to have another dabble.
trekkie: Hi, yes, all previous years have had a broad and easy going collection of members, past members and various friends and relations. There is no reason why this won't continue this year.
With such a large group, the WhatsApp group, which is exclusively for the Arran trip has been very successful. Cheers, John.
